Teaching yor dog to give it’s paw.

This is a simple trick to teach which later can be used as a base to teach your dog to wave bye bye.

Simply say give your paw or shake (which ever you prefer) and take your dogs paw. Praise your dog and give your dog it’s favorite treat. Repeat this step a couple times. You dog will eventually get it and start raising his paw after you say give your paw before you reach for it. Give your dog lots of praise. Stop training for the day and reward your dog for being such a good dog. Keeping your training sessions short and fun for your dog is very important.

For the next training lesson say give your paw and hold out your hand. If your dog remembers your dog will put his paw in your hand. Give your dog lot and lots of praise. If your dog doesn’t remember, back up to the last step, pick up his paw for him a couple of times. Soon your dog will catch on and place it’s paw in your hand.

You can also add some variety to this trick by teaching your dog to give either the right or left paw on command. You can do this by using the same technique you used for teaching give your paw. You could say give me your right paw and pick up the dog’s right paw, or repeat the same for the left paw. Always give your dog lots of praise and keep your training sessions short and always make it fun for your dog.
